Notice of brief delay

Just a heads up, our next post will be a little late due to our attendance at the royal wedding. Haha. JK. We both are doing more work on Monday and will post pictures and updates when we finish.

So there were termites........

When we had the inspection done, they noted that there was some old termite trails, but everything was dead. They were right about things being dead. What they didn't see because it was all cunningly covered up was the damage behind the newer drywall. Mulch, some would call it.  Seriously, it was very cunningly covered up. Morris took an exploratory tap to the base of the wall in the dining room the first night we were in there after signing and nearly put his whole shoe through with that gentle tap.  He then started peeling back some of the drywall that mostly just crumbled and it just kept going. Eventually we had bare, partly shredded beams and piles of debris everywhere. Very fortunately, Morris knows how to do all sorts of things - from general construction to carpentry to electrical to plumbing - so I was only partly terrified of what was about to happen. Plumbing surprises and destruction/construction

Progress has been continuing, though this was a busy week at the office and sorry for the delayed posting of last week's updates! I managed to snag a couple photos as well of the existing termite damage that I mentioned in the last post - the mulched board - as I was transferring the detritus of Morris's work into the snazzy dumpster that we rented. Keep in mind that these were supporting beams for part of the house. Be terrified. You know how meat that has been slow cooked for a long time just shreds with the slightest touch? Yeah, that's what this wood did. Wood is not supposed to do that! Also, we had some fun running out into the distant suburbs to pick up a trailer (which has been incredibly useful).  And the Tractor Supply Store little chicks for sale. This is not a thing I was anticipating, city gal that I am. It was adorable. A+ chicken nuggets. Thursday night was grabbing the trailer, Friday was a run to Home Depot and then running back to ...

So begins our life among the boxes

This past week has consisted mostly of us clearing up smaller projects, finishing those off, and then moving our stuff in. We managed to move everything out of our storage unit and apparently Morris had forgotten how many boxes of books I had.... Oops! I'm seriously looking forward to having all our things in one place and not having to commute between the apartment and the house constantly, but it will make some chores a little more difficult - like having to move things in order to paint parts that still need it. We've divvied up the additional bedrooms not still under construction between us so each has a room with a closet and room for a desk and such. I've started putting all my craft things and dance things into the closet for my office / guest room and my supervisor was very pleased with my progress! Some really good news for our supervisor is that now that the nasty chemical things are done and we've picked up the sharp/dangerous stuff from the floors, ...
